The Trigg Foundation offers a privileged introduction to Turkish culture through a programme of unparalleled diversity and depth. The Istanbul Course presents the opportunity to study many aspects of the culture from the Byzantine age, through the Ottoman period to the present day concentrating on the unique art and architecture that make Istanbul one of the worlds most fascinating and beautiful cities.
But there is much more: the Istanbul Course offers the chance to study a language that is a model of logic, economy and grace; to learn about the incredibly rich and varied cuisine; to consider Istanbul's strategic political position at the crossroads of Europe and Asia; and to discover why business is booming in Europe's biggest city. Besides the lectures on the various aspects of Turkish culture from acknowledged experts, it is the experience of living in the heart of Istanbul, meeting people and visiting places not normally accessible to the casual tourist that make this course unique.
The Istanbul Course also places emphasis on the development of study skills. Participants are given training in how to lead seminars, write academic papers and make professional presentations all invaluable preparation for work at university and in later life.
Above all, the Foundation wishes young people who take part in the programme to leave Istanbul imbued with the energy and enthusiasm for life which so marks the people of this great metropolis. They will work hard, but also have the time of their lives.
